Several mutations in the production of colon carcinoma

Tumor formation goes through several stages. It
starts with a somatic or germinal mutation in
the APC gene. After loss of the other allele (LOH),
an adenoma develops with less-differentiated
cells and polyp formation. Mutations in other
genes lead to malignant transformation and
eventually to tumor development.
